As I Grew Older - Bridging | p.54


Langston Hughes was an African American poet at the time when there was racism against black people. He wanted to make a change- to get the same rights the white people had. He wanted to fight the injustice, Not through violence, but through his talent - writing poems.

In the poem 'As I Grew Older', Langston Hughes tells about the difficulty of being black. The poet had a dream when he was a kid, but as he grew older, he realized he couldn't fulfill it just because the color of his skin. It made him want to fight for what he deserves. He didn't give up and thanks to him and to his friends, the artists who took a part in the battle, the African Americans got the rights they deserved.
